Director and CFO Smart Energy
Stokely Smart carries a wealth of knowledge to the role of Director and CFO of Smart Energy from his experience as a risk management professional. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) specializing in Finance and Enterprise Risk Management, a Certified Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA) and a Professional Risk Manager (PRM). His comprehensive skillset is built from a background in investment banking, actuarial consulting, pension regulation, hedge fund management and insurance modeling. Currently, Smart is the director of the Actuarial Science Program at the University of the West Indies St. Augustine and provides risk management consulting services to the wider financial services sector.
Aqila brings more than 10 years of practice as an Attorney-at-Law to her directorship of Smart Energy Limited, having served as an Associate Attorney-at-Law at the firm of Gittens, Smart & Co., Attorneys-at-Law, since 2004. Aqila predominantly specializes in Family, Conveyancing, Land Development, Banking, Commercial, Corporate, Insurance, Probate, Intellectual Property and Civil Litigation (instructing). Aqila holds an LLB (Hons.) from the University of London and a BSc (Hons.) in Psychology from the University of the West Indies. Aside from her legal pursuits, Aqila is continuing her education as a French student at the Alliance Française, Trinidad.
Aisha de Four
Through her work, Aisha de Four is focused on socially conscious initiatives and is keen for betterment of Trinidad and Tobago. She brings her passion for social good combined with her legal experience as a practiced attorney to her role as a Director of Smart Energy Limited. Aisha has served as an Associate Attorney-at-Law at the firm of Gittens, Smart & Co., Attorneys-at-Law, since 2013. Her focus is Probate, Conveyancing and Civil Litigation (instructing). Aisha holds an LLB (Hons.) from the West Indies (Cave Hill), a legal certificate from Hugh Wooding Law School and a B.A. (Hons.) in Political Science from the University of Toronto. She is a member of the European Business Chamber in Trinidad and Tobago (EUROCHAMTT), a former Secretary of Business Chamber, and currently a tutor-in-training with the Adult Literacy Tutors Association (ALTA) in Trinidad and Tobago.
Alicia Cooper brings a wealth of experience in Financial Services
and Investment Banking. She currently services a diversified client base with a focus on the North American and Caribbean media sectors. Alicia holds a BBA in Accounting from Howard
University and an MBA from McGill University, with a concentration in finance. During her MBA program she completed a four-month internship in Toronto with BMO
Capital Markets in their Mergers & Acquisitions “M&A” group.
Whilst completing her MBA program, she also worked as a Senior Associate for EMP Media Partners, a New York based media focused investment bank, before returning to Trinidad. Upon her return to Trinidad Alicia joined EY’s Transaction Advisory Services group and serviced clients across a wide range of sectors locally and regionally. Prior to beginning her MBA program, she was a Senior Associate with GHL & Co. (now
EMP Media Partners) during which time she assisted in raising over US$2bn in private markets for the financing of studio film slates. Before joining GHL she worked as an Investment Banking Analyst with UBS in the Global Industrials Group in New York, where she participated in over US$3bn of M&A transactions and US $4bn of financing transactions.
Ian Smart got his start in solar energy when he volunteered for SunWatt, a U.S.-based non-governmental solar energy company, assembling solar chargers for communities in Haiti. After this experience and since 2004, Smart has been Managing Director of Smart Energy Limited. He is actively involved in designing and installing solar powered systems for buildings, assembling and installing solar street lighting for public spaces, conducting energy audits and teaching and consulting in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Ian previously lent his electrical engineering talents to the electronics sector in Japan, the energy sector of Trinidad and Tobago (British Gas and PowerGen), and the renewable energy sector internationally (Australia, USA, British Virgin Islands and Germany). Smart holds a Masters in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Photovoltaics (MEngSci) from the University of New South Wales. Smart is also a lecturer at the University of
Trinidad and Tobago.
Managing Director Smart Energy
Johannes Glitzky aims to provide renewable energy to the Caribbean and other similar climates. His passion for economic and environmental sustainability drew him to the industry. Johannes achieved his Bachelor of Science in renewable energy in 2013 and is now blazing through his Masters in the same field.
During an internship in Indonesia he learned the complete sizing and simulation process for solar installations. Johannes then spent time volunteering at an orphanage installing and maintaining a PV system. He enjoys low carbon footprint activities like sailing, wind and kite surfing and volleyball even surfing in the waves of Trinidad and Indonesia.
Renewable Energy Engineer
Akil Cooper is a young, dynamic finance professional recently resettled in Trinidad and Tobago. He possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Howard University, as well as a Master of Science in Finance, Investment and Risk from the University of Kent. Professionally, he has extensive experience in the local financial markets. This experience ranges from corporate banking and bond structuring to portfolio management and investments. Mr. Cooper currently manages one of the largest mutual funds domiciled in the English-speaking Caribbean.
